Perspiration. Inspiration.

Let's talk about sweat.

Thomas Edison said "Genius is one percent
inspiration and 99 percent perspiration."

I’m no genius, but I'd say by “perspiration,” Edison meant “hard work” (and he’s right).
I’ve also realized though, that everything I'm passionate about distills to those 2 things
~ perspiration and inspiration ~
meaning, physical life and artistic life.
And the relationship between them:
body and imagination, sweat and storytelling, physical freedom and creative flow.
After a long and frustrating experience of disconnect, yoga was key to unlocking
my physical power and imaginative resources.

We can talk about why it works, later.
Point is, ever since I made this discovery, I’ve had missionary zeal about it.
I love to spread the love.

You don’t need to feel like “the yoga type.”

The only thing that needs to be flexible is your attitude.
This isn’t about impressive poses, or a yoga booty or thigh gap.
This is about bringing your realest real and opening to the possibility that it is enough.
That your body is just right, your movement is prayer, your story matters, your life is art.
You have the right to be a mover, maker, creator.
To let your imagination grow wild.
This is about helping you find an authentic way to move
a feeling of flow, a sense of freedom, an experience of beauty truly your own
that you can let go into with devotion,
that leads you to your center.
I know from my own stumbling, bumbling, ever humbling, nearly 20-year practice
Source can be found in
sweat and sweetness, laughter, tears, and tired muscles, beating heart and full, blessed breath.

Move ecstatically, freely, move from your heart.
Move without fear of doing it wrong.
If you’re breathing you’re doing it right.
If you love yourself when you move this way, you’re doing it right.
If moving like this feels divine, you’re doing it right.
Keep going, keep flowing
Create your yoga day by day
You are exactly where you need to be.

Don't sweat it.

unleash your inspiring self

'Jenny integrates her passions skillfully and with great thoughtfulness into what is the best kind of student-centered teaching. Her generous approach to students of all levels is a marvelous blend of knowledge, kindness, and experience. She is truly an embodied, 'on-her-feet', and 'in the moment' instructor. Her years of preparation have led to a kind of freedom in her teaching that truly benefits those fortunate enough to come to the mat with her!'

Distilling 15 years' experience devising customized yoga classes and yoga/arts workshops for children and adults, Jenny Sheffer Stevens developed a distinctive teaching style--spirited practices that challenge and nurture the body, spark the imagination, and help people find a free and authentic way to move.  She's taught variations of her signature program to actors, writers, dancers, producers, designers, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and more, in a wide variety of venues, including full semesters within a conservatory, as a guest teaching artist in undergrad programs, a prestigious literary festival, in corporate settings, on private retreats, and in individual sessions. Jenny has a longstanding commitment to outreach—creative empowerment of young people, especially girls—and has devoted significant time to pro-bono work with children, leading yoga & arts classes within highly diverse New York City public schools.  She holds a BA in English Literature, MFA in Acting, multiple yoga teaching certifications, and is a two-time recipient of the Lincoln City Fellowship, a generous grant from the Speranza Foundation, for her integrative work in writing, arts education, yoga, and women’s initiatives.
